M. John Harrison

I finally finished "Variable Star" this weekend and began "Nova Swing" by M. John Harrison. I love Harrison's work of which I have read "Vericonium" and "Light". And I just found his blog so I will add the to my lists. His prose is wonderful - much like China Mieville. Dense and not like most Scifi. His language is simply enjoyable to read. Great descriptions, I find myself mentally "there", I can see everything and everyone (which is wonderful cuz it helps in the escape from reality). This book is of the sub-genre Event Site Fiction, which is fast becoming a favorite of mine. The classic of this genre being the Strugatsky's "Roadside Picnic".

Will probably have "Nova Swing" done in the next few days.

I bought books this weekend: Saving a Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan, Nova Swing by M. John Harrison, Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs, Engine of the Gods by Jack McDevitt, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, and a few other odds and ends.
